    * Die Teilnahme an der Prüfung ist nur möglich und notwendig, wenn Sie in einen Bachelorstudiengang an der FERNFH aufgenommen wurden und zur vollständigen Erfüllung der Zulassungsvoraussetzungen noch einen Kenntnisnachweis aus Englisch erbringen müssen.

    • Dies ist unser Vorbereitungskurs zur Qualifikationsprüfung* für Bewerber:innen ohne allgemeine Universitätsreife zum Nachweis von Englischkenntnissen für die Aufnahme in einen Bachelorstudiengang an der FERNFH. Er soll Sie dabei unterstützen, sich auf diese Prüfung vorzubereiten.

      Aber auch wenn Sie diesen formalen Nachweis nicht benötigen, können Sie gerne den Kurs dazu nutzen, Ihre Englischkenntnisse vor Studienbeginn oder während des Studiums aufzufrischen.

      Der Kurs ist das ganze Jahr (und 24/7) offen für Ihr Selbststudium. Eine aktive Betreuung findet jeweils von Mai bis Oktober statt.

      Für individuelle oder persönliche Fragen können Sie gerne eine E-Mail an die Kursleitung senden. Falls Ihre Anregungen aber für alle interessant sein könnten, posten Sie diese bitte im Diskussionsforum.

  • Getting started... the first steps!

    You can start with your exam preparation beforehand by using the "Study Guide" in the recommended text book "English Grammar in Use, 5th Edition". Work through the Study Guide, and check your answers with the Study Guide Key. If one of your answers is incorrect (or where you felt unsure whether you are right or not), mark the corresponding study unit (on the right side of each question in the Study Guide). These study units should be the ones where you start your self-study. Afterwards, try to repeat those those units until you feel more confident. Finally, use the content and the tasks provided in this online-course.

      Before you start studying, it can be helpful to check your current English competencies. Work through the appropriate checklist, and document your experiences in your English Journal.

      • A1 level = Elementare Sprachverwendung, geringe Vorkenntnisse
      • A2 level = Kommunikationskompetenz in vertrauten, alltäglichen Situationen
      • B1 level = Grundwortschatz für allgemeine Themen und komplexere Kommunikationsstrukturen

      With the help of the Checklist, you can set your goals (=objectives) for the course, and continually check your progress.

      These Lists are based on the Common European Framework of References for Languages (CEFR; or GERS in German) and are provided by the Sprachenzentrum of the University of Vienna.

  • Welcome and introduction


    • Welcome to this English preparation course! In case you have not worked through the self-assessment checklists, the study guide and documented your results in your English Journal - this is the perfect time! 

      Participation in this online-course is fully voluntary. But it might aid your exam preparation if you go through the content and the tasks a few times, in order to be confident for the exam. You will find different tasks for different fields (e.g. reading, writing, listening) and sections with grammar exercises. Make sure to thoroughly check the Study Guide, and feel free to check on the additional resources.

      To kick the summer school off officially, I would like you to tell me a little bit about yourself, your background, career, interests and hobbies, etc. and your motivation for wanting to start studying at the FernFH. And all this needs to be in English. I would like you to write a short introduction (approximately half a page) into your English Journal.

      Afterwards feel free to start browsing the course content and the exercises, and don't hesitate to ask if you need further support or have any questions. Enjoy!

      Prepositions are a very large group of words, and the only way to master their use is memorizing, practising and reading English texts to get a feeling for their correct use.

  • Exam Preparation

    • It is of course difficult to limit the extent of the learning content when it comes to learning a language.
      Nevertheless, I would recommend to especially pay attention in your preparation for the English qualification exam to the following units in your book:

      • Units 1-25
      • Units 26-37
      • Units 42-46
      • Units 82-91
      • Units 121-136
      • Units 137-145

    • Here you will find a model test with the corresponding test key. This test is similar to the qualification exam in length and complexity.
      I recommend you to proceed with the model test as follows:

      • Settle yourself in a "realistic examination atmosphere". See to a quiet work place and take the real examination time of 90 minutes as your timeline.
      • Work through the model test, but do not betray yourself: Do not use any other resources for solving the test than the ones which will be allowed during the real examination.
      • Do not use the test key when solving the test! First, finish the model test completely on your own devices, and after that check your answers with the key.


      This will help you to find out in which topics you will still need some more practise for the exam.

      Während der angegebene Prüfungszeit (16:00-17:30) können Sie hier die Online Prüfung abrufen, sofern Sie zuvor die Eigenständigkeitserklärung (Wird vor der Prüfung freigeschalten) bestätigt haben.

      Wenn Sie vor Ablauf der Prüfungszeit mit dem Test fertig sind, können Sie ihn beenden und abgeben. Die Prüfung kann dann während der Prüfungszeit nicht mehr aufgerufen werden.
      Achtung: Es kann sein, dass Sie bei Abschluss des Tests vor Ende der Prüfungszeit eine Rückmeldung erhalten, dass der Test "nicht berücksichtigt wird". Das liegt an internen Moodle-Überprüfungsoptionen und kann ignoriert werden.

      Spätestens zum Ende der eingestellten Prüfungszeit wird Ihre Testteilnahme automatisch beendet, der Test gespeichert und im letzten Zustand der Bearbeitung "abgegeben". Steigen Sie aus irgendeinem Grund aus dem Online Campus vor Ende der Prüfungszeit (ohne Abgabe) aus, wird der Test ebenfalls zum Ende der Prüfungszeit automatisch beendet und abgegeben.

      Für die Prüfung selbst stehen maximal 90 Minuten zur Verfügung. Nach Ablauf der 90 Minuten wird Ihre Testteilnahme automatisch beendet, der Test gespeichert und im letzten Zustand der Bearbeitung "abgegeben".
      Sollten Sie weniger als 90 Minuten vor dem Ende der Prüfungszeit starten, so wird spätestens zum Ende der eingestellten Prüfungszeit Ihre Testteilnahme automatisch beendet.
