Objective: Empirically determined which advantages and disadvantages arise for older engaged people in the Murtal region through voluntary work, taking into account the respective framework conditions and which learning effects are achieved through voluntary activities.
Method: 6 individual interviews with open questions (3 men, 3 women) between the ages of 66 and 75 were carried out. Advantages and disadvantages were filtered out with the content analysis according to Mayring.
Results/Discussion: Most of the interviewed from different fields of voluntary work reported beneficial effects on physical well-being. Predominantly, success and being involved in a group was cited as positive for the psyche. All persons indicated in one way or another that getting together with other people had a positive impact on their social life. The valuable lifetime was repeatedly mentioned in connection with the negative effects. Time problems had a negative impact on body, psyche and social life. As a learning effect, it was stated that one can react better to other people by volunteering. With regards to given framework conditions of an organization, free time allocation and free acting were considered valuable.
