Das Controlling im öffentlichen Gesundheitswesen ist eine zentrale und wichtige betriebswirtschaftliche Teildisziplin, welche der Unternehmensleitung gut aufbereitete und aussagekräftige Daten zur Verfügung stellen soll. Leider ist gerade das Controlling in Krankenanstalten und Pflegeeinrichtungen immer noch zu sehr nur auf monetäre, messbare und zahlenbasierte Kennzahlensysteme fixiert und lässt nicht monetäre, nicht messbare, soziale oder umweltbezogene Themen und Daten oft außen vor. Dadurch ist es dem Controlling auch nur möglich, einen Teil der Realität in den jeweiligen Organisationen abzubilden. Gerade in Hinblick auf den allgegenwärtigen Fachkräftemangel, den demografischen Wandel und die vielen weiteren zukünftigen Herausforderungen, braucht es auch im Controlling ein Umdenken, weg rein von einer betriebswirtschaftlichen Teildisziplin, hin zu einem nachhaltigen, sozialen und einem neu gelebten und visionärem Controlling, welches auch Themen wie zum Beispiel die erwähnte Nachhaltigkeit, das Wissenscontrolling oder auch eine erweiterte Form des Personalcontrollings enthält. Hier ist das Controlling im öffentlichen Gesundheitswesen in Zukunft gefordert, der eigenen Unternehmensleitung ein umfassenderes Informationswerk an die Hand zu geben, welches auch soziale und nachhaltige Aspekte berücksichtigen soll. Dazu wird folgende Forschungsfrage gestellt: Wie kann das Controlling in öffentlichen Krankenanstalten und Pflegeeinrichtungen auch nicht messbare oder nicht monetäre Daten sinnvoll für die Unternehmensführung einer NPO im Gesundheitswesen aufbereiten? Um die Forschungsfrage zu beantworten, wurde eine Literaturrecherche von Primär- und Sekundärliteratur durchgeführt. Die Literaturrecherche hat ergeben, dass das Controlling in Krankenanstalten und Pflegeeinrichtungen noch zu sehr auf rein monetäre und messbare Kennzahlensysteme ausgelegt ist und es mehr Mut hin zu einem visionäreren Controlling braucht, wo auch die Nachhaltigkeit, die Umwelt und das Soziale ihren Platz finden.

Controlling in the public health sector is a central and important business discipline that is intended to provide company management with well-prepared and meaningful data. Unfortunately, controlling in hospitals and care facilities is still too focused on monetary, measurable, and number-based key performance indicator systems and often leaves out non-monetary, non-measurable, social, or environmental issues and data. This means that controlling is only able to reflect part of the reality in the respective organizations. Especially in view of the omnipresent shortage of skilled workers, demographic change and the many other future challenges, a rethink is also needed in controlling, away from a purely business sub-discipline, towards a sustainable, social and a newly lived and visionary controlling, which also includes topics such as the sustainability, knowledge controlling or an expanded form of personnel controlling. In the future, controlling in the public health sector will be required to provide its own management with a more comprehensive set of information that should also take social and sustainable aspects into account. The following research question is asked: How can controlling in public hospitals and care facilities also prepare non-measurable or non-monetary data in a meaningful way for the management of an NPO in the healthcare sector? To answer the research question, a literature search of primary and secondary literature was conducted. The literature research has shown that controlling in hospitals and care facilities is still too focused on purely monetary and measurable key figure systems and that more courage is needed towards more visionary controlling, where sustainability, the environment and social issues also find their place.
