Abstract (de): |

Abstract (en): |
Prof. DI Walter Guggenberger is a civil engineer company for surveying. The ratio of elder
employees is quite high. The procedures in the business field of state of nature surveying
have not changed for the last 15 years. Due to a new specification of services provided by
clients this business field now works break even.
Based on the introduction of modern methods of measurement as well as the automation in
data processing not only should the day-to-day operations of employees be facilitated but
the business field itself should be put on profit. Final goal is to improve the performance of
employees and the general motivation to be increased.
The scientific question for any operations is: How to introduce in the business field of state
of nature surveying new methods of measurement accompanied by adapted working
procedures with a pool of elderly employees while adjusting those tools to the specific needs
of the client and at the same time increasing the performance of the employees?
Social interaction by means of specifically structured face-to-face sessions and team
meetings should ensure that general attitudes and point of views by employees are much
better understood. Provided this a change in attitude towards the newly established
working environment is to be achieved. Any obstacle or the fear of the unknown should be
abolished. Key is to explain the new parameters of the new strategy for success,
hence increasing the general acceptance of those changes going on. Decision making is
organized bottom-up. This should improve the employees' transition to accept the newly
established framework and in parallel facilitate the identification of the employees with the
project.
The results of the updated methods of measurement as well as the new working procedures
developed together with the employees eventually find their common ground of acceptance.
This is especially true as the daily operations got easier and there is no difference in
handling the tools irrespective of the employee being an elder or a younger one. The
increase in motivation and in performance pushed the whole company to finally earn profit.
