The world of work and education is facing major challenges in the age of digitalization and flexible working models. In order to keep the current teaching staff and attract future ones new measures are needed. This thesis looks at the different models and concepts of well-being and staff retention in education in South Tyrol.
The aim of this study/work is to determine which possible courses of action, when speaking about the well-being of teachers in South Tyrol, need the most focus and effectiveness in order to increase commitment.
Furthermore, concrete measures for the retention of secondary school teachers in South Tyrol will be named within a framework of 31 interviews. Significant influencing factors indicated were identified based on these 31 interviews. Data based on the answers given by the teachers interviewed showed that esteem, respect, recognition, transparent and open communication were the recommended courses of action and received the most effectiveness and attention, along with reduction of workload and a fairer salary.
The results of the interviews also emphasised the importance of structural improvements and social factors needed to increase both the well-being and the commitment of teachers.
Possible measures on how to improve working conditions and retain teachers in the long term based on the results are shown in this study. Further adjustments and changes are however, required in the world of education in South Tyrol.
