Die vorliegende Arbeit gibt einen Überblick über den aktuellen Forschungsstand zum Thema
Controlling 4.0 in der Praxis – Die Auswirkungen der Digitalisierung aus Sicht der Controller_innen
und untersucht auf Basis einer empirischen Studie die Auswirkungen der Digitalisierung
bzw. Industrie 4.0 auf den Unternehmensbereich Controlling in der Unternehmenspraxis. Im
Rahmen der Studie wurden fünf teilstrukturierte Expert_inneninterviews durchgeführt.
Es wird aufgezeigt, welche Chancen und Herausforderungen sich für das Controlling und die
Controller_innen durch die Digitalisierung in der Unternehmenspraxis aus Sicht der Expert_innen
ergeben und inwiefern sich die Software- und Informationssystemlandschaft sowie die Controlling-
Prozesse durch den digitalen Wandel verändern. Expert_innen sehen vor allem Entwicklungspotenzial
in den Controlling-Hauptprozessen Management Reporting, Planung,
Budgetierung und Forecast sowie Datenmanagement. In der Software- und Informationssystemlandschaft
liegt der Fokus derzeit auf der SAP S/4 HANA Umstellung.
Weiters wird erforscht, wie sich das Rollen- und Anforderungsprofil der Controller_innen durch
die digitale Transformation wandelt und welche Fähigkeiten und Kompetenzen Controller_innen
zukünftig aufweisen müssen, um den neuen Anforderungen und Kompetenzveränderungen gerecht
zu werden. Expert_innen gehen davon aus, dass Controller_innen im Unternehmen zukünftig
zunehmend als Business Partner_innen tätig sein werden, sich ihre Aufgaben und Tätigkeiten
jedoch verändern.

This paper reviews the current state of research on the topic Controlling 4.0 in practice – The
effects of digitalization from a controllers’ perspective and examines, based on an empirical
study, the effects of digitalization on the corporate division of controlling in corporate practice.
As part of the study five semi-structured expert interviews were accomplished.
It is shown which opportunities and challenges controlling and controllers have to face as a
result of digitalization in corporate practice from an experts’ view and in which way the software
and information system landscape and the main controlling processes are changing due to digitalization.
Experts see development potential in the main controlling processes management
reporting, planning, budgeting and forecasting as well as data management. In the software and
information system landscape the focus is currently on the SAP S/4 HANA Conversion.
Furthermore, it is explored how the controllers’ role and requirement profile change as a result
of the digital transformation and which skills and competences controllers will need in order to
meet the new requirements and changes in competencies. Experts assume that controllers in
practice will act increasingly as business partners, but their tasks and activities will change.
