When it comes to attracting attention on the Internet, there is hardly a way around Google Therefore the question arises, how the complexity of the text is evaluated by Google itself. Another important aspect is the question of how an article is perceived by the reader and whether texts of varying complexity appear to be useful for different target groups.
Therefore, this work offers
(1) a basic approach to the analysis of texts with basic definitions,
(2) an overview of possible quantitative text evaluations with the most important indices for the German language,
(3) a selection of appropriate tools for applying quantitative assessments to the indices discussed.
Based on these foundations, texts were evaluated by means of a survey. In addition, text variations were presented on a website and the length of stay and the total number of pages visited by users were examined.
As a result, medium texts show the best acceptance among readers.
