Fast jede Art von Niedergeschlagenheit, Überforderung oder innerer Erschöpfung wird heutzutage mit dem Begriff Burnout assoziiert. Dadurch wird das Burnout-Syndrom fälschlicherweise oft als Mode- oder Volkskrankheit bezeichnet und nicht als schwere psychische Krankheit wahrgenommen. Burnout hat in den letzten Jahren enorm an Popularität erfahren und so auch in Organisationen und Unternehmen Einzug genommen. Die Diagnose Burnout stellt nicht nur die Betroffenen vor Probleme, sondern auch Betriebe müssen sich immer mehr mit Produktions-, Know-How- und Imageverlusten, Unruhen und Misstrauen unter den MitarbeiterInnen, hohen Krankengeldkosten sowie Langzeitausfällen und dergleichen auseinandersetzen. Die vorliegende Arbeit beschäftigt sich deshalb einerseits mit den Folgen und Auswirkungen von Burnout auf österreichische Unternehmen aus betriebs-, volkswirtschaftlicher sowie rechtlicher Sicht und andererseits mit den finanziellen und rechtlichen Aspekten der betrieblichen Gesundheitsförderung sowie deren Erfolgsfaktoren.

Nowadays almost every kind of dejection, excessive demand or internal exhaustion is associated with the term burnout. Therefore the burnout syndrome is often mislabelled as a fashionable complaint or a widespread disease and is not perceived as a severe mental illness. Over the last years the burnout syndrome has gained a vast popularity and has taken its entry in associations and companies alike. The diagnosis burnout does not pose only problems to the affected persons but even companies have to more to deal with loss of production, know-how and image, agitation and suspiciousness among the employees, high costs of sick benefits as well as long-term failures and suchlike. Hence, the following dissertation deals on the one hand side with the consequences and impacts of burnout on Austrian companies scrutinizing a national economic and legal point of view and on the other hand side with the aspects of the occupational health management.
